This is a screening method to test for hearing
deficiencies and early damage due to excessive
noise. It is another way to truly see if your husband
truly can't hear you! Although I am kidding, this
testing process can detect several problems which
may be occurring. Problems such as environmental
noises, occupational noises, or noises within your
home and vehicle causing hearing loss.

Patients may not detect loss of hearing at different
frequencies, but the importance to avoid further
injury to the auditory system or injury caused by lack
of hearing. Often patients do not hear the honking of a
car, horn of the train, or words spoken by another.

Auditory evaluations can be done to check for:

     - Hearing Aide necessity
     - Corrective surgical requirements
     - Speech Therapy
     - Requirements to seek a specialist

If you are seem to be having occasional "ringing in
the ears," reduced hearing in certain directions, tone
death, or pain, consult your provider.

Tympanogram

A tympanogram is the testing of movement of the
middle ear.  Is a simple "pen-like" instrument when
placed within the opening of the ear canal sends a
signal that bounces back and detects pressure.
Physicians can detect several medical issues such as
fluid within the ear canal, ear infections, punctured
ear drum, or eustachion tube dysfunction.

It generally takes about 2 minutes for each ear.
