Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) begins when the muscles within the digestive
tract begin uncontrolled spasming.  The spasms cause the intestines to flush the
substances within the bowel either to fast or too slow.  This will cause intense
cramping, pain, as well as, constipation or diarrhea.

Many studies have been done in researching IBS.  Researchers believe that
adverse food reactions, lactose intolerance, infections caused by parasites,
viruses, or bacteria and even overuse of antibiotic therapy may be contributors
to the syndrome.  Scientists believe that IBS suffers have highly sensitive
muscle tissue or inflammatory lining within the intestinal tract.

One thing that is common in almost all cases, stress aggravates the symptoms.

What can I do?

  a.  Increase the bodies need for high fiber foods, beans, grains, cereals, and
fruits/veggies.
  b.  Begin drinking lactose treated milk products.
  c.  Limit the consumption of alcohol, caffeine, and high fatty foods.
  d.  Review foods which may irritate your system.  Make a list keep it on the
refrigerator of what not to eat.
  e.  Peppermint , Acidophilus, and Psyllium have shown to help with IBS.

Lastly

Reduce stress in your life.  By exercising with brisk walks, nature rides, biking,
aerobics, etc. will help with relaxation as well as keeping your bowels smoothly
moving.
