Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) begins when the muscles within the digestive tract begin uncontrolled spasming. The spasms cause the intestines to flush the substances within the bowel either to fast or too slow. This will cause intense cramping, pain, as well as, constipation or diarrhea.
Many studies have been done in researching IBS. Researchers believe that adverse food reactions, lactose intolerance, infections caused by parasites, viruses, or bacteria and even overuse of antibiotic therapy may be contributors to the syndrome. Scientists believe that IBS suffers have highly sensitive muscle tissue or inflammatory lining within the intestinal tract.
One thing that is common in almost all cases, stress aggravates the symptoms.
