The teenage years will be the greatest amount for growth in height and weight. This is the time of growth spurts, puberty, independence thinking, vocal changes, and more. These variations may be gradual or immediately noticeable, but the timing for these changes is different for everyone.

Life’s is changing
Physical, mental, and sexual maturing is prevelant within the adolescent age group. The pituitary gland produces a substance called FSH (Follicle-stimulating Hormone). This hormone begins production of estrogen in the female ovaries and sperm production in males.
Male Changes:
Enlargement of the testicles Penile enlargement after one year testicular growth. Pubic hair growth – 13 years old Beginning of nocturnal emissions (Wet Dreams) Age 14 Facial and underarm hair production, and acne at 15 years old. Vocal changes
What else to expect? Male body size will increase, such as their feet, hands, and arms. Hormones will increase causing sweating and without proper facial care may lead to acne. In this age group, it is vital to keep control of their acne to prevent scarring. Dermatologists can assist in the education and treatment of these skin conditions.
Mental Growth
These years bring forth many changes. It is the beginning of independence, critical thinking processes begin, and creation of short term objectives and goals. They begin having concerns with relationships, friendships bonding, physical appearance, family and social issues to name a few. Peer relationships become a stronger influence in their life. Love and the identity of sexuality become prevelant in this age group. It is this critical time in their life that parents and children alike must be stronger in their abilities to be patient, listen, and create a calm welcoming home atmosphere. The home should be neutral and invite conversation, respect, and mutual understanding.
