| Reiki Medical Applications Pronounced Reiki (Ray-Key), it is a Japanese phrase which means a Universal Life Force. Reiki is a gentle method of hands on healing and is widely used today for the treatment of stress and pain syndromes. The profound healing properties and principles of Reiki were established by Dr. Mikao Usui from 1862 - 1926. After long pilgrimages most budhists studied a wide range of mediations, philosophies, and various healing remedies and techniques. Dr. Usui taught disciples and masters to pass on these healing properties which are being highly used in throughout the world today. Through the many scientific studies of the effects of Reiki, hospitals and medical practices are including these techniques to aide with patient care. Today, Reiki is used in Yale University, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, California Pacific Medical Facilities, Kesler Institute, and many local and regional facilities.
